Her opponent, Colin Allred, is MAGA and ICE\u2019s favorite Democrat. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 16px; font-weight: 400;\">Colin Allred turned his back on our communities and our civil rights.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Colin Allred voted with Republicans again and again to strip immigrants of due process. Colin Allred chose not to author a single piece of health care legislation during his time in office &#8212; despite women&#8217;s reproductive rights and access to health care being eroded at all levels of our government during those years.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><b>Colin Allred voted for mass deportation policies that Trump is using to terrorize immigrants and asylees today. <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/118th-congress\/house-bill\/7511\"><b>H.R. 7511<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. While Trump signed this bill into law, Julie Johnson voted NO on the same bill.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Civil rights groups said presented a \u201cserious threat to civil liberties<\/span><b>\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. T<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/civilrights.org\/resource\/opposehr7511\/#\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">he Leadership Conference on Civil Rights said<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, \u201cH.R. 7511 would require the mandatory detention \u2013 without any possibility of bond \u2013 of any undocumented person who is merely arrested for or charged with property-related offenses, including misdemeanor shoplifting. It does not require conviction of such an offense. There is no statute of limitations, and the bill does not specify any process by which a person might contest either their immigration detention or the underlying criminal charges (if charges are even pursued). Mandatory immigration detention based on a mere arrest is unprecedented, and it would invite abuses that almost certainly would disproportionately impact people of color.<\/span><\/p><p><b>Colin Allred sided with Republicans to slash funding to cities unless they help Trump&#8217;s ICE raids. <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/118th-congress\/house-bill\/5717\"><b>H.R. 5717<\/b><\/a><b>.<\/b> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lwv.org\/immigration\/lwvus-joins-letter-urging-congress-oppose-denial-federal-funding-sanctuary-cities\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The League of Women Voters<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> said the bill would cut off billions in federal funding, impacting public health, safety, and services for all residents.\u00a0 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/aflcio.org\/scorecard\/votes\/2024\/house\/hr-5717-dealing-federal-funding-states-and-localities\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Labor unions slammed the bill <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for forcing police officers to act as immigration agents, making communities unsafe for workers and residents alike. The AFL-CIO said, \u201cWhen working people fear immigration consequences for engaging with local authorities, they are less likely to report crimes.\u201d<\/span><\/p><p><b>Colin Allred voted to allow ICE to indefinitely detain U.S. citizens without trial. <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/clerk.house.gov\/Votes\/2019445\"><b>H.R. 2500<\/b><\/a><\/p><p><b>Colin voted with Republicans to allow officers to discriminate against immigrants and violate due process of the law. <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/118th-congress\/house-bill\/5585\"><b>H.R. 5585<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights said this bill would \u201ceviscerate due process.\u201d Julie Johnson voted NO on the same bill.<\/span><\/p><p><b>Colin Allred voted to expand ICE detention centers and allow Department of Defense buildings to be used as ICE detention centers. <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/clerk.house.gov\/Votes\/2019445\"><b>H.R.2500<\/b><\/a><\/p><p><b>Colin Allred voted with MAGA Republicans for a bill that deports immigrant women who are victims of domestic violence. <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/118th-congress\/house-bill\/7909\"><b>H.R. 7909<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The Trump administration uses this policy today to take immigrant women from domestic violence shelters and domestic violence court hearings.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.womensrefugeecommission.org\/press-releases\/the-violence-against-women-by-illegal-aliens-act-will-harm-survivors-of-domestic-violence\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Women\u2019s Refugee Commission<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has grave concerns about the impact this legislation would have on survivors\u2019 ability to seek safety from abuse. Its provisions are especially concerning in light of the Trump administration\u2019s stated plans to rescind the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement\u2019s (ICE) Protected Areas (or Sensitive Zones) policy, which will allow ICE to enter locations like hospitals and domestic violence shelters to detain and deport migrants. Taken together, these and other policies force immigrant survivors into impossible choices between their immediate safety and arrest and deportation. They also hand a powerful tool for coercion back to abusers.\u201d<\/span><\/p><p><b>Colin Allred voted with Republicans for H.R. <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/118th-congress\/house-bill\/7343\/titles\"><b>7343<\/b><\/a><b> which eviscerates due process according to civil rights groups and allows for the mandatory and indefinite detention of immigrants and citizens alike. <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/civilrights.org\/resource\/leadership-conference-letter-opposing-h-r-7343-mandatory-immigration-detention\/#\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Leadership Conference on Civil Rights<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> said, \u201cMandatory detention on the basis of a mere arrest is unprecedented. It would make it far more difficult, if not impossible, for defendants to defend themselves against charges (if charges are even pursued). And it would invite abuses that almost certainly would disproportionately impact people of color.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><b>Colin supported funding Trump and Abbott\u2019s border wall and called the expansion of the border wall, \u201c<\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/administration\/4241942-texas-democrat-praises-biden-border-wall\/\"><b>necessary<\/b><\/a><b>,\u201d according to interviews during his first Senate race.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The wall project has been a boondoggle for taxpayers, costing Texas billions and enriching GOP donors while Texans struggle to pay for healthcare and rent. \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.texastribune.org\/2025\/06\/17\/texas-border-wall-funding-ends-abbott-trump\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Just 8% of the 805 miles the state identified for construction is complete, which has cost taxpayers more than $3 billion to date<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u201d<\/span><\/p><p><b>Colin Allred is out for himself. He refused to support a bipartisan push to end stock trading by members of Congress in <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/golden.house.gov\/sites\/evo-subsites\/golden-evo.house.gov\/files\/220124%20Final%20MoC%20Stock%20Ban%20Letter.pdf\"><b>2022<\/b><\/a><b> and doubled his wealth while in office.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Allred\u2019s assets skyrocketed by somewhere between 138 and 236 percent during his time in office. As a candidate in 2017, he reported assets between $412K and $1.03M, and in 2025, he reported $1.3M and $2.4M &#8211; <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/disclosures-clerk.house.gov\/public_disc\/financial-pdfs\/2019\/10037813.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">U.S. House of Representatives Clerk<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">; <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/efdsearch.senate.gov\/search\/view\/annual\/ac5b1f44-2bdf-4e53-9215-599050db4f7b\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">U.S. Senate Financial Disclosure<\/span><\/a><\/p><p><b>Colin Allred is out for himself.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> He started his campaign for TX33 on the last day of filing, after failing to advance in his second U.S. Senate campaign. He views the district as a consolation prize and is seeking to unseat the first openly gay member of Congress elected to represent the South. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/crs-product\/R48535\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Women only make up 28.5% of Congress<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but Colin Allred thinks women are placeholders for men who have failed to advance.
